Senior Cost Engineer

Our business since its inception in 1991 has been to develop the best retail dealer system and information services for the automotive industry. In the current situation, we have about 100 employees with expertise in areas such as automotive trade, project management, systems and IT. Some of our largest customers are Volvo, Renault and Ford dealers and their general agents and today we have over 10 000 users of our solutions. We are seated in beautiful, newly renovated premises at Lindholmen in Gothenburg. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Volvo Car Sweden.

What you will do?

  • Responsibilities are the tasks or duties that must be performed well to succeed in a role. 
  • Concept and Procurement Deliveries:
    Estimating and challenging cost of systems/parts and tooling from early engineering phases until end of production (concept, sourcing, running production) based on technical documentation and project prerequisites (such as volume, footprint etc.). Overall focus should be to maximize impact of spend.
  • Data Collection and Analysis:
  • Collect and analyse data from a wide range of sources such as cost breakdowns, supplier documentation, plant visits, technical changes, claims (related to volume, raw material, etc), tear downs and other value analysis activities to identify possible business impact and negotiation opportunities.
  • Based on facts and data, deliver and explain (internally and externally) how to reach optimal cost for the technology/business in scope. Provide specialist guidance in manufacturing of parts and tools enabling the cross functional team to take appropriate actions in terms of negotiations, design of parts, processes and or tools etc.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    Develop existing way of working and propose actions to generate updates of processes and standards to continuously improve best practices and deliveries. 
  • Deliver Cost benchmark analysis on Cpl. Vehicle level as well as System level.
  • Deliver Partprice frames to SDP (System Development Plan) decisions.
  • Deliver cost targets on Sub-system level at gate PS in new Programs.
  • Support R&D with cost specialist competencies when evaluating and selecting technical concepts
  • Deliver Cost estimates to Target Evaluation.
  • Deliver should cost estimates and fact based negotiation arguments to new sourcing contracts and changes versus contracts, QoP.
  • Actively support buyers in fact based negotiations in order to meet the estimated cost
  • Deliver benchmark cost and delta analysis for raw material claims
  • Act as a member of Cost cutting teams. Deliver cost estimates on parts in running production and on new ideas.
  • Act as cost specialist in competitor analysis   

 

Why do you fit the profile?

  • A Bachelor or Master degree in engineering
  • More than 3 years working experiences in cost estimation, manufacture, tooling, production area in well-known OEM or tier 1 supplier, tooling company.
  • Good knowledge of production, material, manufacture process. Electronic Cars knowledge prefered.
  • Good knowledge of injection , Chroming, Foaming, welding, surface treatment, and assembly etc.
  • Familiar with tooling structure and manufacture.
  • Have fact base negotiation and cost analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated fluency in English, written and spoken, as well as experiences working in global environment.
