Transport Operations Manager

Job Summary:         


The purpose of the Manager – Inbound Domestic Operations is to ensure operational performance and daily execution of North America premium and standard transports to the VCCH plant and return freight of packaging back to the suppliers. This function is critical to manage timely shipment and arrival of transports. This function is responsible for operational communication with the suppliers, plant and carriers for all North American flows.  As a Volvo leader, this position is responsible to mentor, coach and motivate team members, developing into a highly effective team.


Principal Responsibilities:


    • Member of Inbound Logistics Management Team
    • Manage, drive and follow-up on the development of the team and individuals.
    • Ensure the required competence in the department and development in the team
    • KPIs are established for all areas of responsibility, continually tracked and the corrective actions are taken
    • Process development and documentation of all areas of responsibility
    • Operational planning, execution, monitoring and management of North America standard transport orders.
    • Operational planning, execution, monitoring and management of North America premium transport orders.
    • Ensure the function’s deliverables for quality, cost, delivery and improvement.
    • Responsibility for a team of transportation specialists (salaried).
    • Ensure that all flows are executed in a timely, cost efficient and professional manner
    • Secure daily operational processes with carriers, suppliers and plant
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers/forwarders
    • Operational responsibility for flows, scheduling (tendering) of loads, planning of slot times, follow-up of events such as goods collected, goods received and escalation to the Exceptions team when extraordinary actions are required
    • Drive operational carrier meetings and be a part of supplier performance review meetings
    • Define, produce and update operational requirements in service descriptions for concerned modes
    • Lead and setup the function, hire and make the function operational
    • Implement and apply change management standards and the Volvo Cars culture


Job Specifications:



  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain/Logistics Management
  • Previous management experience, managing and developing people and teams.
  • Strong process mindset and networking capabilities
  • Strong customer-focus and service mindset with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships
  • Results-oriented
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in freight forwarding, project logistics or operational supply chain
  • Experience from automotive logistics, preferably both international and domestic freight
  • Strong understanding of carriers’ operations
  • Understanding of general freight forwarding rules/regulations and understanding of Inco-terms
