Trade Specialist

The purpose of the Trade Specialist is to work collaboratively within the Volvo Car Trade Management & Compliance team in the Americas region to facilitate compliant import and export activities, while working at a global level to support delivery on the global trade strategy.  The Volvo Car Trade Management & Compliance strategy involves a shift in the way we do business to become a “best in class” trade management team. To be successful in this role, the person must demonstrate an ability to think creatively, deliver on innovative solutions and serve as a role model to the team to lead the way on our journey of change. Within the Process Excellence function, we have ownership of the import and export processes and the resulting outcome. This to include duty, operational costs, and compliance consequences.

What you'll do

 

  • Collaborate with the Trade team to efficiently manage day-to-day activities as a command and control tower
    • Import/Export Operations
    • Foreign Trade Zone Operations
    • Electronic filings: ISF/Entry/e214, ePTT, IT, EEI etc…
    • Special Trade Programs
    • Broker Performance Management Activities
  • Work collaboratively with team to set department goals and deliver on strategic improvements that lead to process excellence in trade activities
  • Review information, data, documentation and material flows to drive process improvements that eliminate waste and reduce costs
  • Consistently demonstrate ownership of assigned projects and their timely delivery
  • Monitor system exceptions and resolve issues as required
  • Coordinate with other groups within supply chain management as necessary to resolve root causes
  • Develop and maintain work instructions to secure standardized processes
  • Develop and maintain written processes and workflows within the Volvos Business Management System (BMS).
  • Coordinate with external customs broker to ensure compliant and timely filings and clearance  
  • Develop systems for the tracking of import and export activities to consolidate information and enhance the reporting process
  • Support management of operational KPI’s on country level and apply corrective and preventive measures
  • Drive process improvements through Automation and Robotization implementations
  • Promote a uniform way of working across functional entities globally and regionally
  • Conduct and document internal audits in accordance with the audit plan for all relevant areas (e.g. US Imports, Canada Imports, FTZ etc…)

What you'll bring

 

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, including 15 CFR and 19 CFR.
  • Experience with customs compliance processes and international trade requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other business software applications.
  • Certified Export Specialist and/or Customs Brokerage License preferred.
  • Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to assess and respond effectively to complex or critical situations.
  • Proven ability to perform well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a systematic approach to planning and execution.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize competing responsibilities.
  • Collaborative team player with strong cross-functional and multicultural communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and committed to continuous learning and improvement.
  • Maintains integrity, honors commitments, and handles confidential information appropriately.
  • Adaptable to changing regulatory environments, with a global mindset and focus on achieving results.
