Tax Compliance & Planning Senior Specialist

The Tax Senior Specialist position will be responsible for the preparation of the US federal and state income tax returns and associated processes. This position will also be heavily involved in preparing and supporting the quarterly and annual tax provision process. This is a hands-on role, interacting and collaborating with the entire tax team in compliance, provision, technology along with internal finance partners and external service providers to ensure timely and accurate execution of tax department responsibilities.
This tax professional should be well-rounded and have exposure in various tax areas. Since the manufacturing plant qualifies for various tax credits/incentives, this position will assist with the filing requirements for such incentives including researching new credits/incentives as needed. Candidate will also assist the Tax Director with various tax matters as needed.
What you'll do
• Preparation of US Federal consolidated tax return and detailed supporting workpapers, including extensions, estimated tax payment calculations and maintaining tax filing calendar
• Prepare and review various State separate/combined and Local tax returns and supporting workpapers.
• Preparation of quarterly/annual tax provisions and supporting workpapers including maintenance and reconciliation of the deferred with the ability to identify, and document return to provision deviations.
• Provide guidance and review for the VCFS quarterly/annual provision calculations.
• Review tax depreciation results for the Volvo USA entities
• Gather information respond to tax audit inquiries raised by the IRS and State/Local tax authorities
• Provide US data specific amounts to Volvo Cars Sweden for inclusion in our Annual Transfer Pricing Study
• Keep current on tax developments, monitor and analyze tax regulatory and compliance developments and tax law changes to ensure all returns comply with latest tax laws and communicate impact to key stakeholders.
• Ability to evaluate current tax processes and recommend/identify technology solutions to streamline and implement system changes to improve efficiency and accuracy in the tax department.
• Gain a deep understanding of the company’s operations, financial systems and businesses and develop a strong internal network beyond the tax department.
• Handle or assist in special ad hoc projects as needed based on business needs
What you'll bring
Required Experience:
• 4+ years of diversified tax experience industry and/or Big 4
• Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in Accounting or Taxation.
• Background in preparing Corporate Federal & Multi-State income tax returns.
• Strong knowledge in accounting for income taxes (ASC740) and other provision matters (FIN48).
• Strong tax research skills and ability to discuss complex tax matters in simple terms to non-tax personnel.
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
• Strong Analytical skills with attention to details
• Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in using SharePoint, word, PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Certified Public Accountant
• Familiarity with OneSource income tax, CCH Fixed Asset Manager, CCH Tax Research Services
