Material Handling Superintendent

Job Summary:  

The purpose of this role is to utilize the Volvo Cars culture in order to build-up and lead the Plant Material Handling team in order to execute In-plant logistic operations and processes as well as ensuring the achievement of required project and business targets timely and financially in coordination and alignment with all effected partners.

 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Member of the Material Planning & Logistics (MP&L) Leadership team.
  • Manage, drive and follow-up on the development of the Material Handling team.
  • Through effective leadership, ensure the team develops to required competence levels within the organization.
  • Assure the function’s deliverables for quality, cost, delivery and improvement.
  • Ensure team’s active participation in cross-functional workgroups together with central MP&L.
  • Lead development and continuous improvement of systems and processes within Logistics by developing standard work instructions.
  • Follow up on personal KPIs and team KPIs by performing the tasks as described above in order to reach the organizational goals and objectives.
  • Leading the execution of in-plant logistics flows to support long term production strategy in plant. Implementing and optimization of required logistics concepts in-line with production requirements (timing / cost) with dynamic assumptions.
  • Steering of structural, financial and manpower requirements to meet defined processes.
  • Adhering to logistics project timelines and resource allocations.
  • Lead team in supporting processes (IT, quality, logistics etc.) to ensure alignment of the overall production concept.
  • Create proposals and ensure the approval of necessary funding in the management meetings and circles. Ensure that all related budget and investment metrics are met.
  • Lead the implementation, maintenance and optimization of in-plant Logistics processes in connection to Volvo standards.
  • Responsible for future model launches within Material Handling.
  • Coordinate workshop activities through the planning with supervisors to ensure the total logistics objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost effective method.
  • Provides leadership in implementation of 5S programs.
  • Provides direction, development and leadership to production supervisors.
  • Responsible for performance of activities connected to "Year over Year" efficiencies.
  • Ensure the implementation of and adherence to Volvo Car Manufacturing System within the entire area of responsibility.
  • Work towards an excellent relationship within the VCCH organization and with other Volvo units worldwide.
  • Foster standardized work through QPS and daily coaching activities.


Job Specifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or 5-8 years of experience in a senior logistics leadership role.
  • Minimum 5 years’ of experience in automotive manufacturing industry, in a similar role.
  • High school degree or GED required
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strategic thinking and goal-oriented
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build a team, confidence and trust at all levels of the organization
  • Strong problem-solving/analysis skills
