The Connected Car team sits within our Consumer Digital organization and is responsible for the Everyday Experiences customers have with connected vehicles in the Americas region. This includes working with our Android based infotainment, Volvo Cars mobile app and our existing cloud platforms.

 

As a Sr. Connected Car Mobile Network Engineer, you will need to engage your strong Wireless / Cellular technical background and leverage a mix of customer support and business communication skills. This position will be responsible for being a subject matter expert related to vehicle communication hardware or software and how they interact across our mobile network providers.

 

Together with colleagues located locally and globally, you will be working to identify root cause of incidents or problems, monitoring network quality and suggesting improvements for the end-to-end connected consumer experience.

 

Primary Areas of Responsibility:

 

  • Act as a technical escalation point for low-level / advanced troubleshooting of incidents or problems.
  • Work directly with mobile network operators and equipment suppliers to identify or resolve quality issues at a network core / ECU firmware / network coverage level.
  • In close alignment with Connected Car Support and R&D Teams, leverage monitoring & data analysis framework to identify gaps and improvements.
  • Build test scripts using Python and deploy them to various test rigs and prototypes.
  • Collect and analyze UE mobile network packet logs, network associations, and perform root-cause analysis of complex customer-facing defects.
  • Evaluate and / certify firmware on pre-production and production equipment as necessary.
  • Generate technical Test plans for vehicle mobility functionality and performance Validations.

 

Do you fit the profile?

We are looking for someone with an established background in Cellular Core Networks, Wireless Consumer Products, or cellular UE testing. Ideally, you will have experience from a role within a technical support or R&D team where you have built skills in diagnostics and troubleshooting cellular network and device connectivity issues. You should come with experience working with 3rd party suppliers and internal stakeholders to meet release deadlines and resolve issues.

You have a strong technical understanding with Carrier Packet Core ( EPC and/or 5GC), Cellular UE data and IMS operations, general networking, cloud services, cellular technologies (5G, LTE/LTE-A, NB-IoT/LTE-M), Android Operating System and software flashing / programming tools (ADB, JTAG Recovery, etc.). You also have experience building and debugging test scripts or tools using Python or similar languages.

Clear and concise communication in English is necessary. Volvo Cars, and the Suppliers we work with are based around the globe therefore a good communicator and enjoy collaboration far outside your team is required.
