Thesis work - Toolkit to verify AUTOSAR system description files before exchanging data

About this opportunity - Background

In the Integration and Release team, we focus on ensuring smooth integration and release activities for our software products. This involves collaborating closely with developers, suppliers, and the CI team to ensure that all necessary software components are properly integrated and tested prior to release. We also work closely with the project management team to ensure that release timelines are carefully planned and communicated to all stakeholders. Our goal is to ensure that all releases are seamless and meet the ambitious standards of Volvo Car Corporation. 
Although AUTOSAR provides a standard for exchanging system description files, difficulties often arise during data exchange. This applies to both data exchange between OEMs and suppliers and data exchange between different AUTOSAR tools. Early in the development process, it is often not automatically checked whether the data is correct. This means that incomplete or inconsistent ARXML files might be exchanged. This, in turn, results in a time loss and additional work, as the errors might be found late during testing, must be reported, fixed at their source, and the exchange repeated.

Scope of the thesis work

To achieve a higher level of quality before exchange, a manual or automatic validation of the data is needed.
The data must be verified as complete, for example, incomplete data is missing/mismatching data types or init values or missing/mismatching elements in the bus specification.
In addition to completeness, semantic correctness must be checked. This can be done by using AUTOSAR constraints, which define semantic rules based on the AUTOSAR schema. It makes sense to also include additional semantic checks. For example, that init values lie in a relevant value range and that relevant units are included.
The tool kit shall be possible to run manually or start as a gate job in the CI flow. In both cases, a validation report shall provide information about all found errors, including detailed information with precise and helpful error messages as well as direct links between the error description and the involved component.

What you'll bring

The required skill set would include familiarity with requirement tracing and testing, the ability to generate and review reports, the ability to identify and take corrective action for any issues, and strong analytical skills to use the reports to make informed decisions about project progress. Also, excellent communication and technical writing skills are essential to developing a clear and concise thesis paper. Additionally, knowledge of CI/CD, Zuul jobs, Jenkins jobs, project management, and driving license B would be meritorious.

Duration

•    The work will start in January 2026
•    The duration for this thesis work is 20 weeks.
•    30 ECTS (Master academic credits) if in agreement with your Thesis Advisor in University
•    The thesis is performed in the office at Volvo Cars Torslanda, Gothenburg.
