We are looking for driven and motivated students interested in pursuing their master thesis within Vehicle Engineering during the spring term 2026.
At Vehicle Engineering, our responsibility spans the entire chassis, interior, climate, body & exterior functions, mechanical Integration and a range of vehicle attributes with impact on design and customer experience of our complete product. Across these domains and all development cycles we will lead an effective delivery operation on complete level in close sync with other Engineering units, functions and stakeholders across the company.
This thesis work is within the area of Exterior Lighting (Rear).
Background & Motivation
LCA results of our exterior lighting products (headlamps and rear lamps) are showing that electronics are a hotspot when it comes to CO2 emissions (eg PCBs, ICs, LEDs). But the LCA analysis as well as the improvement possibilities are still limited.
Description:
Analyse the problem further and identify improvement areas. Innovations in the field shall be studied, evaluated, selected and prepared for a proof of concept. Examples could be innovative production methods for PCBs, like for example printing instead of etching processes. Study of existing production methods in parallel with reaching out to different companies or start ups to learn about new approaches would be followed by a comparison and evaluation.
Scope of the thesis work
The focus of this work shall be on applied research to help finding solutions for reducing CO2 footprint of electronics. Secondary, if suitable solutions could be identified a proof of concept could be planned or started.
What you'll bring
Preferably experience within electronics, sustainability, LCA. Self organised, curious and fast learning.
Duration
• Tentative proposed thesis work period: 19th January 2026 to 26th of June 2026 (dates can be flexible with +/- 7 days)
• The duration for this thesis work is 20 weeks.
• 30 ECTS (Master academic credits) in agreement with your Thesis Advisor in University
• This thesis is to be conducted by 1 Student or 2 Students working in pair.
