At Vehicle Engineering, our responsibility spans the entire chassis, interior, climate, body & exterior functions, mechanical Integration and a range of vehicle attributes with impact on design and customer experience of our complete product. Across these domains and all development cycles we will lead an effective delivery operation on complete level in close sync with other Engineering units, functions and stakeholders across the company.
This thesis work is within the area of Polymer Materials at Material Engineering Center.

Background & Motivation

Sun simulation is our full vehicle test where we simulate solar load and temperature build up in the car when exposed to parking conditions corresponding typically to the harsch climate of Arizona.
During the sun simulation test, temperature is continuously logged in order to steer and control the settings of the equipment, and a large number of sensors also measure the actual achieved temperatures on parts in order to give feedback to engineering.
This generates a vast amount of temperature data.

Objective
There is a need for automating analysis and visualization of the vast amounts of data generated in our sun simulation test chamber. Today the work is mainly done manually, and we need to free up engineering time to focus on  analyzing the compiled data.

Scope of the thesis work

The focus of this work is a Data engineer work, to design and implement scripts that enable easy detection of anomalies in the daily temperature data, compile data in temperature collectives, visualize outcome of the compiled data shall be prepared for future AI utilisation.

What you'll bring

You have a background in Data Engineering with practical knowledge of programming in Python. The work will mainly be on site at Volvo Cars Torslanda.

Duration

•    Tentative proposed thesis work period: 19th January 2026 to 26th of June 2026 (dates can be flexible with +/- 7 days)
•    The duration for this thesis work is 20 weeks.
•    30 ECTS (Master academic credits) in agreement with your Thesis Advisor in University
•    This thesis is to be conducted by 1 Student.
