Our Power Electronics department is a pioneering business unit within Volvo Cars, responsible for designing & developing innovative products such as traction inverters, on-board chargers & DC/DC converters. We are constantly working to improve our power electronics products in terms of efficiency, power density, weight and cost with enhanced quality from one generation to the next.

We have highly skilled team members in each technical domain of the Power Electronics systems including both hardware and software design.
Most importantly, we prioritize the safety of the customers when using our vehicles and we apply this fundamental requirement to all our product designs.  We are now looking for a System Design Engineer to join our team!

The Power Electronics department at Volvo Cars is a pioneering business unit responsible for the design and development of cutting edge products such as traction inverters, on board chargers, and DC/DC converters. These systems are at the heart of our electrified vehicles and play a key role in shaping the future of sustainable mobility.
We continuously drive innovation to improve our power electronics products from one generation to the next — pushing the boundaries of efficiency, power density, weight, cost, and quality. Our work is carried out by highly skilled engineers across all technical domains of power electronics systems, covering both hardware and software design.

To strengthen our team, we are now looking for a System Design Engineer who is passionate about electrification, safety and high quality engineering solutions.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be part of our inverter system team, focusing mainly on system design and requirement elicitation for the inverter. You will be in continuous dialogue with several stakeholders and architects to find the best solution overall, while balancing the different demands of the product with legal and other regulatory requirements. Your deliveries will be picked up by our development teams on both hardware and software side for further refining and development into the product we put on the market.

You will be responsible for: 
•    Requirement elicitation
•    Requirement breakdown
•    Stakeholder management
•    Support supplier contact
•    Complete capability and functional balancing
•    Anchoring of requirements for realization
•    Interface management – physical and digital
•    
PRSP, SACA and TSC 

What you'll bring

We believe our candidate will come with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent technical degree, and have experience with Power Electronics, covering both hardware and software. You have great collaborative competencies and will there be naturally for you to drive stakeholder management across different internal functions.

To be successful in this role, we believe you have knowledge of Electric Drive systems and requirements management. You are familiar with ISO 26262 (Functional Safety), including SACA part 4, PRSP part 4 and TSC part 4, as well as  ASPICE and have experience working with MATLAB/Simulink.
