The Painted Body department within Vehicle Platform, is responsible for the development of body structures and surface treatment systems for all Volvo cars. Development work is mainly conducted within the department (built-to print) and in close corporation with Manufacturing, Design, Purchasing and Suppliers.

What you'll do
As a System Architect you will lead the work to define the concept offer within the Painted Body department. The work is done together with a skilled team of designers, experts, other architects, and principal engineers with focus on early program phases. You will be main responsible for defining the body structure offer supporting the fulfillment of critical customer attributes such as safety, NVH, durability, paint quality, weight and sustainability, as well as balancing cost within given time frame.
In this role, you will be the Concept Leader for the Painted Body work in the concept phase where the focus will be to define approved concepts for a specific program in front of the industrialization phase where lead function will be handed over to our program department manager.
As System Architect, you chair and lead, the department concept meeting for your main program. You will guide and support our teams to take technical decisions and take on broad product responsibility as well as foster a quality-first culture using modern tools and technologies.
The role requires close collaboration between other design departments, base product development, manufacturing and attribute areas. You will work close together with other System Architects within the department as well as Unit Architects within Vehicle Platform. As a System Architect within Painted Body, you will be part of the management team with Painted Body.
What you'll bring
You have a University Degree as well as proven experience within relevant engineering areas as Body Structure, Manufacturing and Attributes and experience from development work in automotive programs.
You have a track record of demonstrating technical and people leadership as well as business acumen. You can break down complex topics but can maintain a holistic perspective. You are structured, customer focused, as well as results oriented. We believe you already have documented leadership experience including knowledge in agile and classic project methodologies.
The architect likes to be part of change to improve ways for the organization to be successful in everything from technology and processes to networks and collaborations. To be successful in this role you need to be open minded towards innovations, new technologies, new tools, solutions, and maybe most important, other team members. A large part of the work is bringing different technologies and people together into a coherent solution that is well aligned and highly effective.
To succeed in this role, you seek to continuously improve your technical leadership with the purpose to make others grow and take responsibility for the complete system solution. You are a self-driven and result oriented person with a high level of engagement and a strong enthusiasm. A technical leader who empowers others and creates energy! You possess great communication skills and have by that ability to communicate clearly and concisely. You are fluent in spoken and written English.
