System Designer

At Volvo Cars, we’re on a mission to simplify people’s lives by designing vehicles around their needs—not fitting people around the latest technology.

We’re always looking to connect with talented System Designers to join our pipeline for current and future opportunities within our Connected Experience unit in Software Engineering.

Who We Are

Volvo Cars is built on the vision of creating safe, sustainable, and user-centered mobility. Our Connected Experience unit in Software Engineering drives this mission by enhancing the connectivity of every Volvo vehicle.

The Remote Functions team is dedicated to developing the Volvo Cars app, which allows customers to start climate control, set charging timers, and lock or unlock doors from their phone, tablet, or watch. If you're passionate about contributing to seamless and meaningful vehicle experiences, this could be the place for you.

What You’ll Do

As a System Designer at Volvo Cars, you’ll work closely with agile teams and product owners, consistently delivering improvements to our larger solutions and systems through the Agile Release Train (ART). Your primary responsibility will be system design, ensuring that the Volvo Cars app delivers optimal functionality and quality for customers.

Staying on top of technology advancements, you’ll bring innovative ideas to enhance our products and processes. Our goal is to provide customers with intuitive remote access to their vehicles, creating a high-quality, user-friendly experience.

Who You Are

We’re looking for adaptable, results-driven individuals who excel in problem-solving and thrive in collaborative environments. You bring integrity, business acumen, and a sense of ownership to your work, presenting your insights clearly.

Ideally, you hold a BSc degree (or equivalent experience) in Software or Electrical Engineering, with 5+ years in system design, strong communication skills, and an EU driver’s license (Category B).

Experience in any of the following areas is beneficial: large distributed system design; connectivity technologies (3G/LTE, WiFi, BLE, GNSS, Ethernet, CAN, USB); mobile app development; or in-car/cloud communication protocols.

Additional skills in Elektra, SystemWeaver/CarWeaver, software development, testing, and knowledge of CAN, Flexray, Ethernet, SomeIP, Protobuf, and ASN1 are a plus.
