Software Engineering Analyst
Software, the fuel for mobility
We bring bold digital visions to life. So we’re on the lookout for more curious and creative engineers who want to create change – one line of high-quality code at a time. Our transformation isn't for everyone, but if you're excited about solving the leading-edge technological challenges facing the auto industry, then let’s talk about your next move.
Let's introduce ourselves
At Volvo Cars, we're on an ambitious journey to redefine the future of mobility. Safety has always been at the heart of everything we do – and today, that mission extends deep into our self-driving and driver-assistance technologies. Within R&D, our AD/ADAS organisation develops the features that help our customers drive safer, smoother and with more confidence every day, from Pilot Assist to highway autonomous drive and beyond.
You'll join a cross-functional team that acts as the "detectives" of our AD/ADAS development. When a complex, system-level issue appears in a test fleet vehicle and no single team owns it, we're the ones who step in, trace it end-to-end, and make sure it gets solved – and that we learn from it.
What we offer:
- A chance to shape features that genuinely matter for road safety, at a company where safety is more than a slogan.
- A modern R&D environment in Gothenburg with access to test vehicles, rigs and a strong AD/ADAS ecosystem.
- A culture that values curiosity, collaboration and personal growth, with strong support for continuous learning.
- Competitive compensation, flexible working, and the Volvo Cars benefits package.
What you'll do
As a System Analyst, you'll lead system-level issue analysis for our AD/ADAS features. Your work will directly influence the quality of features our customers rely on every day. In this role, you will:
- Lead fault tracing of complex, unclear issues that span multiple functions, software releases and teams.
- Translate fuzzy problem statements from the field into clear hypotheses, reproducible findings and concrete corrective actions.
- Decide independently where to focus testing, when to escalate, and which stakeholders to involve – often under time pressure close to a release.
- Drive exploratory and pre-merge testing on our ADAS test fleet, including hands-on work with vehicles, logs and signals (FlexRay, CAN, Ethernet, in-vehicle diagnostics).
- Drive lessons learned back into system design and test coverage ("shift-left"), so the same issue doesn't appear twice.
- Run KPI and fault analysis to spot trends, prioritise the right problems and shorten the lead time from "fault found" to "fault fixed".
- Support the launch of new car programs and features by identifying risks early, before formal verification gates.
- Collaborate closely with design, verification & validation, program management and our partners – including Zenseact.
What you'll bring
We're looking for an engineer who thrives in ambiguity, loves digging into data, and gets energy from solving the problems no one else can crack. You likely have:
- A degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, Vehicle Engineering or similar.
- Solid experience with embedded automotive systems – ideally in AD/ADAS, active safety, powertrain or another safety-critical domain.
- Hands-on experience in system-level fault tracing, root-cause analysis and exploratory vehicle testing.
- Strong skills in log and signal analysis (FlexRay/CAN/Ethernet, Wireshark, in-vehicle diagnostics tools) and scripting in Python.
- A good understanding of V&V processes and modern software development flows (CI/CD, pre-merge testing, fault reporting).
- Fluency in English; Swedish is a plus, not a requirement.
Who you are:
- You're curious and analytical – the kind of person who isn't satisfied until you understand why.
- You take ownership of unclear, unowned problems and drive them to closure.
- You communicate clearly with both deeply technical engineers and program-level stakeholders.
- You build trust across teams and influence without needing formal authority.
- You're pragmatic: you balance speed and rigour, and you know when to dig deeper and when to ship.
