Software Engineer - Java/C++

Can you engineer a brighter tomorrow?

It’s crystal clear: the actions we take in the next few years will significantly impact our future. At Volvo Cars, we embrace change. We’re committed to transforming the automotive industry and leading in electrification. For this, we’re seeking out more creative minds to shape that future. Don’t miss this opportunity to create your tomorrow.

The Climate Comfort Department – Let’s introduce ourselves!
In the Climate Comfort Department, we’re at the forefront of developing climate control systems for both current and future Volvo Cars models. Our multidisciplinary teams collaborate to deliver integrated hardware and software solutions. As part of this dynamic environment, the Climate Control & Calibration Group plays a crucial role. We define, develop, test and calibrate software functions, including the climate menu – the interface that connects drivers and passengers to their vehicle’s climate controls.

What you’ll do
As a Java & C++ Programmer, you’ll be an integral part of our Integration & Climate Human Machine Interface (HMI) team. Your primary focus will be implementing the climate menu on the center stack screen of our vehicles but also helping with the integration and release of our climate app based in the core system.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Designing and developing HMI Systems entails leveraging your strong Java expertise to create intuitive and user-friendly interfaces that enhance the driving experience.

  • Collaborating across functions involves closely engaging with cross-functional teams to define, design, and implement new Climate features.

  • Taking a user-centric approach requires partnering with function owners and graphic designers to understand end-user requirements and seamlessly translate them into our app.

  • Optimizing performance involves identifying bottlenecks, troubleshooting issues, and rectifying bugs to ensure seamless functionality.

  • Mastering integration means seamlessly integrating the Android application with the vehicle system to deliver a cohesive user experience.

  • Taking end-to-end responsibility includes assuming ownership of functionality from concept to verification, which encompasses tasks such as conducting automated testing and in-vehicle validation.

Travel to Norrland, Spain and occasionally other locations may occur in this role.

What you'll bring
We believe you hold a demonstrated familiarity with agile development practices coupled with a relentless passion for software excellence. Characterized by a natural curiosity, proactive initiative-taking, strong communication skills and a genuine enthusiasm for engaging in collaborative problem-solving discussions.

To thrive in this role, we believe you:

  • Holds a B.Sc. or M.Sc. within Systems, Control and Mechatronics, SW Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent experience
  • Have at least a few years of hands-on experience developing applications in Java
  • Have experience with UNIX, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Are fluent in written and spoken English
  • Hold a driver's license valid in Sweden and driving experience (B category)
  • Have experience with embedded systems
  • Basic knowledge in C++
  • Have frontend/UI experience

And it’s a bonus if you:

  • Are fluent in Swedish
  • Have experience in C++ and Python scripting
  • Have experience in the automotive industry
  • Have experience with embedded systems and Java 11
  • Have experience with the Android Open Source Project
