Software Engineer
Want to join us on our exciting journey?
For Life. To give people the freedom to move in a personal, sustainable and safe way. This is our purpose at Volvo Cars and our guiding star as we embrace the transformation and opportunities in the automotive industry towards software defined vehicles, sustainable propulsion systems, core system technology, connectivity, state of the art active safety and autonomous drive systems.
Let's introduce ourselves
Core System Technology
At the department of Computing Infrastructure System, we set the architecture and design for the core system technology which is the foundation for enabling a software defined vehicle. The core system serves as the heart and brain capacity in the current and future vehicle electrical architectures. It provides as a capable and complex embedded software platform with an execution environment for product function applications. A combination of multiple systems-on-chip with different purposes enables high performance computing capacity, redundancy, robustness, safety and security.
Work assignment
A critical part in automotive engineering is to have a deep technical understanding of the system, identify possible failure modes, designing and implementing monitoring mechanisms and setting strategies for mitigations if failures occur. It is vital to design for availability, robustness, diagnostics and maintenance for all stages of the product lifecycle from innovation, engineering, industrialization, manufacturing and aftermarket.
Assignment responsibilities
In this assignment you will be part of the team responsible for diagnostic design of the core system. The team delivers detailed diagnostic design solutions, system and software requirements as input to teams working with the implementation. The team is also responsible for system verification of the design solutions, as well as maintaining the diagnostic databases of diagnostic entities which is used by for example manufacturing and aftermarket. As a system engineer in this team, you will work with analyzing the system architecture, defining diagnostic solutions and defining the system and software requirements.
Do you fit the profile?
To be successful in this role you need to have a deep understanding of embedded software systems, and you need to be able to understand diagnostic standards and regulations to be able to ensure compliance. You are analytical and can transform complex problems into clear design and requirements. You are a genuine problem solver with a positive and solution-oriented mindset, and you are strong on collaboration.
Previous experience and knowledge required:
- Extensive experience of embedded systems
- Extensive experience of software and hardware design for embedded systems
- Diagnostics standards (ISO14229, SAE-J2012, SAE-1979)
- Reliable diagnostic monitor design
- Define datapoints which would be used for analysis in backend and/or predictive maintenance
- Define control routines to support testing and workshop verification
- Authoring software requirements according to ASPICE (SYS and SWE)
- Structuring, creating and maintaining DTCs and related data as well as configure UDS services as needed for each sub-system
- Create and release diagnostic specifications
Preferred experience
- Autosar and/or POSIX environment
- Aftermarket usage of on-board diagnostics
- Emission related monitor design
You have a M.Sc. degree in Software, Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Good communication skills in English (speech and writing) is necessary.
