Software Engineer

Software development that makes a difference

At Volvo Cars, we are making bold digital visions come true. We aim to lead in the automotive world by creating a digital ecosystem built around making our customers' lives less complicated. Now we are looking for curious, creative people who want to change the world through innovative thinking.

You will join Sustainability Digital within Engineering at Volvo Cars. This group of teams delivers digital solutions that support Volvo Cars in becoming a leader in sustainable business, with bold ambitions to reduce our carbon footprint per car by 75% by 2030 and be a climate neutral company by 2040. We use modern tools and agile methods to create business value continuously. We ensure high quality and adaptability in our delivery. Of course, we have fun together while doing it.

What you will do

We are looking for an experienced full stack developer with tech lead qualities to join the Material Information management team, mainly working with software engineering and support of several web-based applications and services. This includes work with a customized off-the-shelf product called MaterialCenter provided by Hexagon that enables management of material information but there are also needs and opportunities to build other applications and integrations related to the domain outside of MC.

You get to join one of several cross-functional product teams who work continuously on delivering new features and support for applications. You will join forces on exciting challenges ahead, enabling Volvo Cars to design more sustainable cars through insights based on material and substance data from a technical, infrastructure, process, and support perspective.

You and your skills

You are an experienced software engineer with a genuine drive to solve problems and have a servant mindset in the team. You have designed enough systems in the past to feel comfortable working on a new application alone as well as jumping into an existing full stack code base. Whether it's related to the domain or learning new technology it's important you are open to deliver real value together with other skilled software engineers. You nurture a psychologically safe, social and inspiring team culture. You support other members when they need help, and you ask for support when you need help. You will also drive improvement together with the team and the system architect. You will also be expected to take part in interviews during recruitment activities.

You are passionate about what you do and focused on delivering business value. You should have a genuine interest in keeping yourself updated on best practices, know and care about sound engineering like the single responsibility principle, automated testing and maintaining code hygiene. Due to the nature of the material domain it’s also important to understand how our stakeholders work and how to support their work with material testing, CAE simulation and environmental impact. Previous experience within these domains or a genuine interest will be highly valued.

What you will bring

•    Java (or C# open to learn Java)
•    TypeScript
•    Graph Databases (e.g. Neo4J)
•    Docker
