Core System Platform

At the department of Core System Platform, we are building a high-performance computer-in-the-car architecture designed to host software-driven functions and features in our next generation pure electric and self-driving vehicles. Volvo Cars next generation cars will have centralized computing with a core system that serve as a platform for our stakeholders and partners to deploy applications on, instead of multiple electronic control units around the car to control individual features and systems. Our multi-node architecture includes high-performance and high-integrity systems on a chip (SoC), providing a safe and secure framework for current and future vehicles.

What you will do

You will be a System Architect and be part of a cross-functional team together with other Architects and Systems Engineers. The team is responsible for identifying core system stakeholder requirements, analyzing and breaking down these requirements to system level platform requirements, and defining architecture and design solutions within various technical areas such as execution environment, communication, network, software update, logging, calibration, vehicle time, diagnostics, safety, cyber security and more.

As a System Architect you will be in a leading technical position with the ambition to create solutions, requirements, clarity and structure. The role requires a lot of collaboration with colleagues in the team, with other teams within Core System Platform and other parts of R&D. It also involves close collaboration with Software Engineering and System Verification teams.

We believe that you are a highly skilled System Architect with several years of experience of architecture and design for different types of systems and solutions. You are a genuine problem solver with a positive and solution-oriented mind-set. You are known to be a team player, you are curious and have a great ability to learn. You embrace the agile principles, and you have a continuous improvement mind-set.

We believe that you have experience and knowledge in:

• System architecture and design for large and complex software solutions

• Software platform development with application developers and integration teams as customers

• System and software design patterns

• Technical investigations of complex solutions

• Present and document architecture solutions for decision and implementation

• Implemented architecture changes in an organization

• Writing specifications and requirements

• System modelling languages such as SysML

• Modern and UpToDate software architectures and development tools

Previous experience from the Automotive industry is a plus but not mandatory. Experience from the following is interesting:

• ASPICE

• Functional Safety for Road Vehicles (ISO26262)

• Cyber Security

• Nvidia SoC and DriveOS

• Autosar

• Risk management

You have a M.Sc. degree in Software, Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Good communication skills in English (speech and writing) is necessary.
