Our teams play a pivotal role in designing and verifying the cutting-edge OTA Software Download (SWDL) technologies at a system level. This role offers the opportunity to build and expand a broad personal network across various system areas within the vehicle ecosystem, backend systems, and customer service departments. As a key player in our teams, you will have access to long-term development opportunities in a dynamic and ever-evolving field, significantly impacting customer satisfaction. Our OTA teams are integral to the Common Base Technology (CBT) department, a core area of technological advancement and innovation at Volvo Cars.

 

Your Role and Responsibilities

 

As a passionate advocate for enhancing the car experience for our customers, you will leverage your deep technical knowledge to innovate and improve OTA technologies within the vehicle and its connected systems. Your role encompasses end-to-end (E2E) function responsibilities for vehicle software updates over-the-air (OTA), including:

 

  • Managing the entire process from creating software packages in backend systems to their remote delivery and updates in specific vehicles.
  • Developing and maintaining a strategic vision for OTA technologies.
  • Enhancing the OTA system solution, from deployment in backend IT systems to car-specific installation.
  • Collaborating with and disseminating knowledge to implementation, suppliers, CI, aftermarket, and backend system teams.
  • Creating and maintaining requirements for areas impacted by OTA, evolving future visions into concrete requirements, and negotiating technical solutions with stakeholders.
  • Addressing requirement deviations and resolving issues encountered during development or aftermarket phases.

 

Technical Scope

 

Your role requires a comprehensive understanding of:

 

  • Backend system functionalities supporting OTA.
  • Set up and release processes for software packages targeted at specific vehicles.
  • The delivery quality of software packages.
  • Vehicle platforms/architectures and their compatibility with OTA, including vehicle connectivity and software update installation processes.

 

You and Your Skills

 

Your passion for technology and customer satisfaction drives you to expand your technical knowledge and build a diverse professional network. You possess a holistic view of system architecture and design, complemented by proficiency in programming languages and tools. Your curiosity fuels your desire to advance OTA technologies. With a customer-focused approach, you are proactive and flexible and possess excellent communication and documentation skills. Your positive attitude, team-oriented mindset, experience in agile development, and familiarity with software development best practices make you an ideal candidate for this role.

 

Basic Skills and Qualifications

 

  • M.Sc or B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of distributed electrical systems and electrical architecture.
  • Experience in architecture and systemization of software development, preferably within the OTA/SWDL domain.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written, are essential due to the distributed nature of our work environment.

 

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

 

  • Experience with Automated Testing, Continuous Integration (CI), and Continuous Delivery (CD).
  • Expertise in base tech areas such as Diagnostics, SWDL, and OTA.
  • Swedish driver's license (B) is advantageous.
