The Manufacturing Engineering department at Volvo Cars is the vital bridge that connects product development and production. We lead the global development for future sustainable manufacturing.
Our team, Technology Development, are specialists working in different technical areas with innovations and improvements within the processes to build cars, which makes a difference in our plants and projects. Our target is to make our plants affordable, by equip them with best technologies which are the most robust solutions and cost efficient.
What you will do
You will work within the field of joining technologies and the related equipment needs. More specifically, screw joints, friction stir welding and potentially other future joining techniques. Main tasks are to secure that relevant global standards and specifications for equipment and quality are up to date, secure that we keep up the competition level in our equipment supplier base and lead the work from an early stage to implementation readiness in car projects. You will also drive networks within Manufacturing Engineering department and network with other departments within the company, such as Engineering, Indirect Purchasing, Production and Maintenance. This role includes also travelling as we have customers with global footprint and meeting with suppliers at their sites or at fairs. Frequency of travel varies from a few to 8-10 travels per year.
What you will bring
In this role, the individual is responsible for taking ownership of projects and initiatives, ensuring that they are executed effectively and efficiently. They drive results by setting clear goals, monitoring progress, and making necessary adjustments to achieve desired outcomes. The role involves meticulous planning and aligning resources and efforts to meet project timelines and objectives. Collaboration is key, as the individual will work closely with cross-functional teams, fostering a cooperative environment to achieve common goals.
To thrive in this role, we believe you:

Have minimum BSc. in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other relevant educations with preferably Joining/Welding Engineering education record

Have worked with Quality assurance methods for welded structures including welding procedure specification, qualification and quality control plan

Are familiar with industrialization of processes and joining equipment as well as quality monitoring methods and tools

Are familiar and worked with welding inspection methods (DT and NDT) and failure analyses

Have ability to work on multiple projects within a cross functional team (product and process)
And it’s a bonus if you:

Have previous experience with processes FSW and Screw Joints and a good track record of working at least with one or both

Are fully familiar with using welding standards (ISO, EN, etc.)

Have experience from Automotive industry

Have experience from working with joining suppliers (audit, inspection, and failure analyses of the quality issues)

Have experience as welding responsible engineer in factory (hands-on jobs with working with line builders, parameter setting, welding personnel qualification, welding quality assurance, equipment maintenance)

Have experience with writing welding standards, quality assurance standards, technical specifications, and design guidelines
