Senior Engineering Manager - Body Technology

The Painted Body department within Vehicle Platform is responsible for the development of body structures and surface treatment systems for all Volvo cars. Development work is mainly conducted within the department and in close cooperation with Manufacturing, Design, suppliers, and external partners.

What you’ll do
As Senior Engineering Manager within Body Technology, you will oversee the operational aspects of our Body CAE team, along with our Advanced Engineering Leaders and Technical Experts within Material & Joining. You will support the entire Engineering community, tackling challenges in electrification, new materials, and sustainability. A crucial part of your role will involve forging alliances for knowledge-building with external partners, academia, and institutes.

You will ensure the delivery of projects while expanding team capabilities. You'll maintain a strategic focus on technology, methods, competence, and future business prospects. Hiring highly skilled individuals aligned with identified capability needs, and fostering their development and growth will be integral to your responsibilities. Additionally, you'll create a conducive work environment, conduct performance reviews, and manage salary settings for your team members.

You will also be an integral part of Painted Body's management team. Collaboration within the department and our networks is paramount to achieving our collective goals. We believe in the strength of teamwork and share the responsibility for developing the department and its employees.


You and Your skills
You possess a University Degree or equivalent experience in the automotive industry, with extensive knowledge in hardware development and Body Engineering. Familiarity with vehicle plant release systems, manufacturing engineering, and sourcing is desirable. You have held multiple senior leadership roles, demonstrating the ability to inspire, motivate, and challenge people. Your genuine interest in people and passion for their development and team building are evident.

You are self-motivated, excel in creating clarity, exhibit courage, take ownership, and employ empowering leadership.

Success in this role requires structured thinking, a continuous improvement mindset, strategic acumen, and a global perspective. Managing complexity and ambiguity is second nature to you. You value teamwork and understand the advantages of collaborative efforts toward shared objectives. You bring a high level of engagement and enthusiasm to your work. Effective communication skills are your strength, with fluency in spoken and written English.
