Motion designer, Car UX

Volvo Cars is on an ambitious journey to design and develop the safest user experience for the humans interfacing with our vehicles. With a focus on Safety, sustainable and personal experiences the Car UX team is looking for a creative, tenured and accomplished designer to focus on motion and behavioural design for on and off screen experiences.

Main responsibilities include:

As a Motion designer in the Car UX team, you will work on defining and building a safe and effortless experience for our users by conceptualizing, documenting and developing an on-brand, forward looking, human-centric and inspiring motion design strategy and guidelines.

 

Your responsibilities will include identifying problems to be solved, structure solutions in a systemic way, coach and mentor other visual and UX designers and educate and communicate with stakeholders of the organization both internally and externally. Your primary canvases will be our on screen and illumination experiences. You will collaborate with other designers and ensure a seamless customer experience across Volvo’s digital landscape. And as part of a product team, you will communicate designs, ideas, and rationale with your team using data and customer insights.

 

As a designer you advocate for the user and develop a deep understanding of our customer needs and pain-points, serving as an expert for your product team and develop ideas for new and enhanced features.

 

Your focus will be in developing technically informed and people focused hypotheses and designs on how to humanize the way to present driver centric information to our users. You have strong visual design skills and a track record that demonstrates how you create and build on top of existing design systems.

 

The design challenges you will jump into will focus on how to most adequatly visualize and communicate different states of vehicle functionality and do it in away that connects with the larger platform system. Your bread and butter will be to understand and untangle complex technical functionalities and requirements and structure them in a clear and glanceable way to our users.

Who you are:

You’ve been designing for 8+ years for a consumer-focused tech company, so you understand what it takes to create elegant, consumer-oriented experiences. You are a versatile designer who uses a full range of skills —motion design, interaction design, service design and visual design — to ensure you deliver magical experiences to the customer. You a natural tinkerer, and look for ways of simplifying the experiences for the customer across a broad spectrum of touchpoints.You’re a strong communicator. Who can inspire teams towards action and empathy for the user.You are a strong collaborator, who can work with not only design parterns, but many other stakeholders from marketing to engineering.You have a people-focused design mentality. Constantly looking to hone your design instinct through user feedback. Whether that’s hands-on user research or a quantitative A/B test.
