Across these domains and all development cycles, we will lead an effective delivery operation on a complete level in close sync with other Engineering units, functions, and stakeholders across the company.

This thesis work is within the area of Contamination at Vehicle Attributes.

In a currently ongoing research project, Volvo Cars, together with Chalmers, is investigating the potential of using recurrent CFD (rCFD) to speed up simulations where physical processes having vastly different time scales are present. In this work, OpenFOAM is used as a base for the research. However, the method has not been tested in a commercial CFD-solver; hence, the potential for implementation and usage of rCFD in StarCCM+, needs to be assessed and evaluated.

Objective:

Evaluate rCFD method for rapid aerodynamic flow predictions for contamination topics within StarCCM+.
1. Evaluate the best options for data handling in StarCCM+
2. Run DES simulation(s) of a simple geometry
3. Apply the rCFD methodology to the process
4. Assess accuracy and time savings

Scope of the thesis work

To investigate the prerequisites for implementation, and to implement rCFD in the framework of StarCCM+.

What you'll bring

Preferably some experience within Fluid dynamics and CFD.

Programming skills are required. Knowledge of JAVA is meritorious.
