Volvo cars have a lot of requirements to ensure a safe, sustainable, and enjoyable car experience. Some requirements stem from legal demands, some from internal design prerequisites and some from customer preferences. Having a lot of requirements can give a clear outline for what produces the most valuable and Volvo unique car, but at the same time, too many or unnecessary requirements might hinder innovation and restrict effective use of resources (cost, time).
The objective of the thesis is to understand what requirements, specifically for the load floor, are redundant or excessive in comparison to earlier Volvo Projects, legalities, and competitors. What
requirements meet the vehicle segment and deliver to the customer's expectations? Where could requirements be optimized, and what impact would that have on the overall load floor experience for the end customer?
Scope of the thesis work
Perform a fresh eye review of the requirements for the load floor to ensure they reflect realistic needs and analyze which can be updated. Compare and rate different alternatives, from a cost and customer point of view, as well as other stakeholders.
