About this opportunity - Background
At Vehicle Engineering, our responsibility spans the entire chassis, interior, climate, body & exterior functions, mechanical Integration, and a range of vehicle attributes with impact on design and customer experience of our complete product. Across these domains and all development cycles, we will lead an effective delivery operation on a complete level in close sync with other Engineering units, functions, and stakeholders across the company.
This thesis work is within the area of Display Systems at Interior Systems.
This thesis project is part of a Vinnova-financed research project involving external research partners, with the project name "SCREENS II", which generally studies the impact on drivers of a vehicle's digital environment.
Objectives:
To study user/driver behavior with and without Augmented-Reality Head-Up Display (AR-HUD) by using an advanced eye-tracking and data collection system.
Scope of the thesis work
The scope of this project is limited to that part of the digital driver environment that is concerned with Head-Up Displays (HUDs) and, more specifically, Augmented-Reality Head-Up Displays (AR-HUDs). The project is intended as an in-vehicle, on-road study, and may also involve programming tasks for AR functions and visualizations in the AR-HUD.
What you'll bring
It is recommended that two hands-on master students with computer science and user interaction backgrounds carry out this project together, where the combined skill set of the students is recommended to consist of the following:

• Hands-on experimentation and physical/optical/electrical measurement skills
• Human factors/user-study skills
• A driver’s license is required for at least one of the students, but preferably for both
• Strong communication skills for reporting and presenting technical findings
Support within these different skill sets will be provided by the Project Partners of the research project, as well as by relevant personnel within Volvo Cars.
