Let's introduce ourselves - Production Control

The Manufacturing Engineering department at Volvo Cars is the vital bridge that connects product development and production. We lead the global development for future sustainable manufacturing. Our team, Technology Development, are specialists working in different technical areas with innovations and improvements within the processes to build cars, which makes a difference in our plants and projects. Our target is to make our plants affordable, by equip them with best technologies which are the most robust solutions and cost efficient.  As we as a company are moving towards electrification and digitalization, this drives also changes in the process and need of new technical solutions where we have an important role for development and implementation. 

What you'll do

You will work within the field of current and future production controls, wireless technologies and technology integration. Main tasks are to secure that we are implementing best control systems and that new technologies are integrated with the process systems. It shall be implemented in relevant global standards and specifications for are up to date, secure that we keep up the competition level in our equipment supplier base and lead the work from an early stage to implementation readiness in car projects. You will also drive network within Manufacturing Engineering department and network with other departments within the company, such as Digital, Production, Maintenance and Indirect Purchasing. This role includes also travelling as we have customers with global footprint and meeting with suppliers at their sites. Frequency of travel varies from a few to 8-10 travels per year. 

What you'll bring

In this role, the individual is responsible for taking ownership of initiatives and development projects, ensuring that they are executed effectively and efficiently. They drive results by setting clear goals, monitoring progress, and making necessary adjustments to achieve desired outcomes. The role involves meticulous planning and aligning resources and efforts to meet project timelines and objectives. Collaboration is key, as the individual will work closely with cross-functional teams, fostering a cooperative environment to achieve common goals. 
 
To thrive in this role, we believe you: 
•    Have minimum BSc. in Automation Engineering, Electrical Controls Engineering, or other relevant educations 
•    Have worked with OT and IoT 
•    Are familiar with industrialization of processes and methods and tools 
•    Are familiar and worked IoT and integration of new technologies
•    Have ability to work on multiple projects within a cross functional team 
 
And it’s a bonus if you: 
•    Have previous experience with superior control systems 
•    Are fully familiar with machine communication protocols, such as MQTT and OPC-UA 
•    Have experience from Automotive industry 
•    Have experience as responsible controls engineer in factory (hands-on jobs with working with line builders) 
•    Have experience with writing technical specifications and standards
•    Wireless technologies and infrastructure
