Manager Transport Expedite and Multimodal Operations

Job Summary:       

 The purpose of the role is to ensure management and execution of expedited freight, standard ocean freight and general cargo shipments to the VCCH plant.  This function is critical to manage all exception handling and ad-hoc transport needs to safeguard production. This function is responsible to manage execution for all modes of transport for all domestic and international flows, including expedited freight and general cargo. The function is also responsible for operational communication with the suppliers, plant and carriers to manage deviations and corrective actions to safeguard production.

 Principal Responsibilities:

 

  • Member of the Inbound Logistics Management Team
  • Manage, drive and follow-up on the development of the team and individuals.
  • Ensure the required competence in the department and development in the team
  • KPIs are established for all areas of responsibility, continually track and ensure corrective actions are taken
  • Process development and documentation of all areas of responsibility
  • Operational planning, execution, monitoring and management of any ad-hoc transports including deviation handling, general cargo, transportation of test or pre-production material and expedited freight.
  • Ensure the function’s deliverables for quality, cost, delivery and improvement.
  • Ensure that all expedited, ad-hoc, general cargo flows are executed in a timely, cost efficient and professional manner
  • Ensure that all ocean flows are executed in a timely, cost efficient and professional manner
  • Secure exception handling process with carriers, suppliers and plant
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers/forwarders
  • Operational alignment of expedited deliveries, slot times for deliveries and daily scheduled communication with Transportation Control and MP&L
  • Manage transport changes due to short term changes
  • Manage deviation handling process with suppliers, carriers and plant
  • Manage expedite/premium solutions to safeguard production
  • Manage crisis and extraordinary events
  • Manage ad-hoc transportation of production, pre-production or non-production material
  • Operational communication with the suppliers, plant and carriers to manage deviations and corrective actions to safeguard production.
  • Create and maintain required operational reporting
  • Drive operational carrier meetings and be a part of supplier performance review meetings
  • Define, produce and update operational requirements in service descriptions for concerned modes
  • Lead and setup the function, hire and make function operational
  • Implement and apply change management standards and Volvo Car culture
  • Implement VCMS in team

 

Job Specifications:

                            

  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Supply Chain/Logistics Management,
  • Previous management experience, managing and developing people and teams.
  • Results-oriented
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in freight forwarding, project logistics or operational supply chain, involved with automotive logistics
  • Experience in international and domestic freight, managing expedited freight
  • Strong customer-focus and service mind-set with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships
  • Strong understanding of carriers’ operations
  • Ability to perform well under pressure
  • Strong networking capabilities
  • In-depth understanding of general freight forwarding rules/regulations and understanding of Inco-terms
  • Solid understanding of compliance relating to multi modal transportation documentation (standard and dangerous cargo)
