The Digital Tech Hub is a key driver in Volvo Cars’ digital transformation journey. We provide expertise in cloud platforms, developer enablement, data, integration, and platform engineering across R&D, Manufacturing, and Commercial domains.
This role will be part of our Platform organization, contributing to building scalable, secure, and automated cloud-native platforms used by product teams globally.

What you'll do

This role is part of the Developer Platform organization at Volvo Cars. The Developer Platform enables product teams globally by providing secure, scalable, and automated cloud-native capabilities across Kubernetes, infrastructure, observability, and security domains.

As a Senior Engineer you will work across Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, DevOps automation, and observability. You will design and build platform capabilities using Terraform, Crossplane, and GitOps, enabling product teams to provision infrastructure and deploy applications in a secure, automated, and self-service manner.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Kubernetes-based platform capabilities across cloud environments (Azure preferred).
• Develop and manage infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Crossplane, GitOps practices).
• Enable declarative, self-service infrastructure provisioning through GitOps workflows.
• Own platform-level Observability (metrics, logs, tracing) tools such as Grafana Cloud, Sentry, Apica, Elastic Cloud, and reliability practices.
• Design and enable secure infrastructure patterns, including secrets management using HashiCorp Vault, identity-based access controls, and policy-driven automation.
• Drive automation across CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure lifecycle management.
• Build reusable platform modules and internal developer abstractions.
• Contribute to the evolution of the Developer Platform by working closely with Security and Cloud teams to design scalable, secure, and enterprise-grade platform capabilities.
• Contribute to performance optimization, high availability, and operational excellence.
• Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to technical design decisions.

What you'll bring

• 6+ years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes (cluster operations, networking, security, workloads).
• Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform required; Crossplane is a strong plus).

• Solid understanding of GitOps practices (e.g., ArgoCD, Flux).
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred).
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar).
• Development experience in at least one programming language (Go, Java, or Python preferred).
• Experience with containerization (Docker) and cloud-native architectures.
• Understanding of observability principles (metrics, logs, tracing) and SRE practices.
• Strong scripting skills (Bash, Python, PowerShell).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team
