Senior Customs Specialist

What you will do?

  • Lead and manage all aspects of customs and trade compliance for the trade operations in China, ensuring adherence to all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain robust customs compliance programs and standard operating procedures, aligning them with global trade strategy.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in customs regulations and policies, advising the company on potential impacts and necessary adjustments to operations and strategy.
  • Identify opportunities to digitalize and automate trade processes, such as electronic document management, trade declarations, and real-time tracking, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with IT departments and external technology vendors to design and implement digital customs solutions that increase efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Monitor and analyze trade data, leveraging data analytics and visualization tools, to derive insights and optimize trade processes, reduce costs, and improve efficiency.
  • Provide expert guidance on tariff classifications, valuation strategies, trade programs, and duty-saving opportunities.
  • Lead internal and external customs audits, ensuring full compliance and addressing any discrepancies or issues proactively.
  • Lead the training and development of trade teams, providing guidance on process excellence methodologies and digital tools.
  • Manage and oversee the work of customs brokers and third-party service providers, ensuring they meet the company's standards for performance and compliance.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on customs activities and digitalization initiatives to senior management and other stakeholders.

 

Why do you fit the profile?

  • Bachelor's degree in International Business, Trade, Economics, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a similar role within the automotive industry, with a focus on trade requirements across the China region.
  • Extensive knowledge of trade regulations, procedures, and trade agreements across the China region, particularly within the automotive sector.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing trade compliance programs, ensuring adherence to relevant laws and regulations.
  • Digital mindset with a deep understanding of digital tools, technologies, and strategies to optimize trade processes and drive digital transformation.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex trade data and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in trade-related software/tools, MS Office Suite, and digital collaboration tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
