Transport Ops Coordinator 2nd Shift

Job Summary:      

The purpose of the Coordinator – Transport Operations role is to ensure inbound transportation orders are correctly tendered to our carrier vendors, ensure transportation orders are executed as planned and when needed and to act on and resolve all deviations in the transport flow. This function is crucial to monitor and secure the timely shipping and arrival of production material for plant production on a daily basis.

 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Timely daily assignment of transport orders in Volvo TMS to standard carriers
  • Monitoring and feedback of standard transport schedules versus planned routes
  • Feedback to Optimization team on 4Flow errors from route discrepancies                       
  • Track and trace transports and initiate resolution for deviations
  • Inform stakeholders about transport deviations and agree and determine resolution
  • Provide input to KPI’s to monitor carrier and supplier actions
  • Escalate any transport issues to Inbound Logistics Management
  • Support Carrier Management process

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assign transport orders to carriers in TMS system as defined by service agreements by routes
  • Recognizing and reporting out transport orders that do not match service agreements
  • Monitor shipment statuses of shipments to ensure timeliness of deliveries meets plant needs
  • Communicate with other teams (Supply Chain Coordinators, Planning and Engineering, Exception Handling) to resolve any transportation issues
  • Monitor and have carriers update information in TMS to reflect accurate status of shipments
  • Connect with carrier contacts (including on-site customer representatives) to ensure all inbound deliveries are on-time and/or provide updates to Supply Chain Coordinators when deviations occur
  • Take part in Carrier Management meetings to support carrier management in carrier improvements. Escalate carriers with recurring issues/performance. 
  • Document supplier and carrier performance as input into Carrier Management forum. Escalate suppliers and carriers with recurring issues/performance
  • Coordinate Crisis management, bad weather conditions or other major situations which might affect stakeholders or may jeopardize production schedules
  • Perform other duties as needed and assigned

 

Authority:

  • Represent and drive Volvo US Operations interests within the competence area

 

Job Qualification:

  • Knowledge and experience of transportation handling, preferably from operational inbound logistics and/or freight forwarding processes and/or air freight
  • Knowledge of carriers’ operations and/or automotive logistics
  • A bachelor’s degree in logistics or related field is preferred
  • Ability to quickly assess complex critical situations
  • Proven abilities to perform well under pressure
  • Service-minded & strong communication and coordination skills
  • Ability to communicate and take action in case of unplanned situations
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends if business necessitates
  • Primary shift is 1400 to 2300 Monday through Friday
