Transport Control Specialist 3rd Shift

Job Summary:      

The purpose of the Specialist - Transport Operations Night Shift role is to ensure inbound transportation execution to the plant happens as planned and when needed, act on all deviations in the transport flow. This function is crucial to manage the timely shipping and arrival of production material for plant on a daily basis.  Overnight handling of transport orders is critical to first shift start up.

 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Handling and management of transport deviations for all modes                         
  • Track and trace transports and initiate resolution
  • Inform stakeholders about transport deviations and agree and determine resolution
  • Develop KPI’s to monitor carrier and supplier actions
  • Organize crisis management when needed
  • Actively take part in Carrier Management process, led by Carrier Management

 

Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to work independently for all aspects of the role.
  • Must be comfortable with critical thinking and problem solving with little to no real time direction.
  • Must be comfortable with communicating to Manager levels through the company.
  • Manage deviations on transports connected to Transport Orders with status accepted (or higher) by carrier in Transport Management System.
  • Coordinate deviation reports, distribute information about all, report transport deviations to stakeholders and manage actions as agreed upon.
  • Analyze and resolve reported deviations, reported by stakeholders, suppliers and carriers, as needed initiate actions as agreed.
  • Coordinate expedites and handle with prioritization. Expedites should be upon request of stakeholders and executed by the exceptions team.
  • Responsible for sending out bids, selecting carriers and tendering loads to carriers based on stakeholders needs.
  • Manage any critical parts list tied to transport orders to ensure delivery and avoid delays
  • Document issues with Carrier performance as input to Carrier Management forum.  Support carrier management in carrier improvements. Escalate carriers with recurring issues/performance. 
  • Document issues with supplier performance. Escalate to Management, suppliers with recurring issues/performance.
  • Coordinate Crisis management, bad weather conditions or other major situations might affect stakeholders to large extent.
  • Actively take part in operational implementation of new transport agreements and secure operational performance with carriers
  • If needed, escalation of deviations to Manager on duty
  • Act as backup for the other roles in the Inbound Operations team.

 

Authority:

  • Represent and drive Volvo US Operations interests within the competence area
  • Authorized to confirm speed-up or extra cost to carrier when approved by Supply Chain Coordinator. Limits TBD

 

Job Qualification:

  • Proven knowledge and experience of transportation handling, preferably from operational inbound logistics and/or freight forwarding processes and/or air freight
  • Knowledge of carriers operations and/or automotive logistics.
  • A bachelor’s degree in logistics, preferred.
  • Two years of experience in carrier/supplier/production facility expedite operations
  • Ability to quickly assess complex critical situations.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate at Manager levels.
  • Proven abilities to perform well under pressure.
  • Service-minded & strong communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to communicate and take action in case of unplanned situations
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends. 
  • Primary shift is 2200 to 0700 Sunday through Thursday
