Senior Analysis Engineer, Thermodynamic

This Sr. Lead engineer will lead performing thermodynamic analysis of various vehicle programs, and present analysis results to project team to balance vehicle attributes.

 

What You Will Do.

  • Set Thermo target for new car projects.
  • Set complete vehicle requirements and support work with Red books or Sustainability books (technical overall targets carried downstream the development)
  • Sign-off at key vehicle milestones, including system mule, prototype, pre-production, and production build events
  • Set climate wind tunnel verification plan, lead team to prepare for, and conduct wind tunnel tests.
  • Make engineering judgement based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) results
  • Using commercial tools perform 1D analysis of various powertrain components
  • Support powertrain thermo system engineering with facts and experiences
  • Collaborate with Exterior team and cross-functional support areas to ensure robust design and integration of active grill shutters and sub-systems
  • Coordinate work with powertrain, systems and components, Interior and other functional teams
  • Regular communication with HQ fluid attributes teams, document and present findings to cross-functional teams and management
  • Act as a carrier of competence regarding Thermo within Volvo China R&D
  • Secure up-to-date competence in continuity with training and seminars, both external and internal
  • Drive investments in software, computational capacity and new technologies

You And Your Skills.

  • MS in mechanical engineering with specialty in heat transfer, thermodynamics & fluid mechanics.
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive thermodynamic area including at least one full product lifecycle from concept through production for HEV, PHEV or BEV.
  • Full understanding of vehicle thermal management concepts, including flow architecture, heat rejection methods, and basic climate control functions
  • EV Thermal system component, vehicle level testing experience is highly beneficial
  • Experience of 1D software such VSIM
  • Excellent knowledge of CFD
  • Familiarity with geometry creation, simplification and data management within CAD software, preferably CATIA
  • Experience with wind tunnel testing
