Who we are
Volvo Cars US – Digital Activation & Growth is a department within Volvo Cars North America that drives the development of Volvo Cars' Connected Car solutions and products for the North American Market. Along with our global colleagues, we are responsible for locally developing and supporting the cloud platform and services that provides telematics and infotainment services to the connected Volvo cars. Among products are the Volvo On Call mobile app, Sensus Infotainment Apps & Services as well as Connected Active Safety features. The development is done in a human-centric mindset using Agile/DevOps practices.

What do we offer
Digital Activation and Growth are growing the local team to develop localized technology in a global platform and support cloud functions needed for Android Automotive, Autonomous Drive, Electrical Propulsion and many Customer-facing digital products. We are currently developing and deploying new cloud architecture to support the planned increase demand for cloud services following the rollout of new vehicle technology such as Android Automotive.

Additionally, the continuously growing number of connected cars and the increased Security and Privacy focus brings new demand to the cloud platform which must be monitored and constantly iterated on. The development and operation are performed in close collaboration with both our internal design departments and external suppliers in a dynamic and international environment.


What you´ll do
As the local market owner of our mobile network environment, the Senior Cloud Solutions Engineer, Connected Car (IoT) is together with his/her colleagues in the global agile team providing (business) value to the larger Connected Car solutions. This is a split role that includes the development of a new cloud platform with a transition to upkeep, testing, iteration and service management.


Initially, you will focus on knowledge transfer with the existing team in order to continue to build and operate the IP connectivity between the Mobile Network Operators and the Volvo Cloud implemented in Amazon Cloud (AWS) Infrastructure around the world so that the millions of Volvo cars can be connected. Accessibility, reliability, scalability, and security will be important when you do the development so that the Volvo car owners and drivers can consume the connected services. Initially, typical day to day tasks would include:

  • Collaborate with global MNO/MNS teams & establish and meet deadlines.
  • Own the local implementation and deployment of the local mobile network infrastructure.
  • Install and configure firewalls, load balancers, VPN connections within AWS infrastructure.
  • Troubleshooting and testing of network infrastructure.
  • Interact with Mobile Network Operator and their backend systems.


Following the deployment of the new technology platform this role will transition into a support and technical operations role consisting of the following responsibilities:

  • Perform platform changes and enhancements as needed.
  • Lead the local migration of vehicles from the legacy platform to a new platform
  • Ongoing End to End software/application testing and validation in vehicles using the cloud platform.
    • Ie: Vehicle Modem Software, Roaming Abilities, etc.
  • Service Management (SLA’s, Monitoring, etc.) & Change Management
  • Performance Management
  • Incident & Problem Management

Do you fit the profile?
In order for you to fully enjoy this job, we believe that you are a technically competent and self-motivated person with good communication skills. You come with experience working at or for a mobile telecommunications technology company. You embrace the needed teamwork within the global team and are comfortable with accomplishing objectives despite natural roadblocks or gaps in information.


Desired Skills:

  • Experience working with Amazon AWS services like EC2, VPC, TGW, SMS-GW, etc.
  • Working at/for Mobile Operators in an engineering or systems operations role. (Preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years of UNIX/Linux hands-on experience
  • Minimum 3 years of WAN and VPN hands-on experience
  • Testing & Documentation Processes
  • Basic scripting in any high-level language
  • Being fluent in English and technical acumen
  • Working in Agile and Scrum
  • Collaboration, communication and presentation skills
  • Analytical skills (troubleshooting, root cause analysis, etc.)
