Senior Manager, Corporate Communications & Events

The Corporate Communications & Events Manager is responsible for the planning, execution and budgetary management of all public relations activity along with National experiential initiatives. Working closely with internal and external team members to create unique brand experiences.

POSITION FUNCTIONS

Corporate Communications  

  • Media Relations – Ongoing external communications with the media (journalists, influencers, key stakeholders) including:
    • Develop, manage and execute interviews for the media relations   
    • National press fleet scheduling and coordination
    • Influencer and key stakeholder relationship management
    • Social media planning and providing content

 

  • Internal Communications – Ongoing internal communications with employees, retailers and manufacturing:  
    • Develop, manage and execute interviews for the executive management team including speech writing       
    • Crisis Management – manage product recall communication; customer service complaints and inquiries  
    • Liaise with Global and US teams for all internal communications  

 

  • Launch Activations - Manage and execute press launch events both locally and globally:  
    • Liaise with Global and US Press teams to plan participation in major and minor launch events to secure number of Canadian media spots
    • Select and invite the media for attendance and book travel
    • Prepare and distribute pre-launch communication
    • Host the media contingent throughout the event and present market presentation
    • Schedule, coordinate and participate in interviews
    • Collect and present event coverage

 

  • Key Message Development & Distribution – Planning, development and distribution of all corporate and press communications including: 
    • Writing : Press release development and customer-facing communication 
    • Distribution : release to media via the newswire, media subscribers 
    • Manage and maintain Media web site
    • Manage media monitoring services and reporting key metrics  

 

Events & Partnerships

  • National Event Programs – Establish and manage execution of key national event activations including auto shows, vehicle launch events and National Retailer Meetings.  Plus other key trade shows or events that allows for relevant and adequate presence of the Volvo brand and product line-up.   
  • Key Partnerships – Building partnerships with targeted associations that align with the Volvo brand in key markets. This includes ad hoc events; product placement; product integrations and targeted partnership opportunities at both a National and Regional scale.     
  • Budget Management – Manage contracts and maintain annual budget for PR and events with monthly reporting to the Marketing Director.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Experience & Skills:

  • 7+ years business experience including a wide spread integrated business understanding
  • University degree in in a relevant subject such as English, journalism, media relations, or business related degree
  • Demonstrated specialized skills in Journalism
  • Experienced in event planning and activation   
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in the media and a good knowledge of press contacts
  • Proven communication skills 
  • Automotive skills and knowledge is an asset 
  • Bilingual in French is preferred   
  • Requires a high level of organization and detail
  • Requires exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to others style of communication
  • Building rapport skills are essential 
  • A diversified self-starter with the ability to conceptualize and implement a variety of projects with multiple/conflicting deadlines
  • Analytical minded as well as have a creative (Inventive) can-do and ‘make it happen’ personality
  • Direct and manage various teams when required (including direct reports, agencies and vendors, Marketing Team, Dealers and Regions)
