Senior Data Engineer

Position Overview:

As a Senior Data Engineer at Volvo Cars, you will play a pivotal role in managing and optimizing our data infrastructure, ensuring the availability and reliability of data for our Sales & Services teams. Drawing from responsibilities typically associated with data analysts, business intelligence analysts, dashboard designers, data lake analysts, and data operations specialists, your primary focus will be on engineering data solutions to meet the needs of our product owners and business. Our engineering team is a diverse and inclusive team responsible for supporting, maintaining, and enhancing the critical backend solutions that drive our business processes. Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with Sales & Services product owners to understand requirements and provide data solutions that drive informed decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines to ingest, transform, and integrate data from various sources
  • Design and implement data models and schemas to support analytical and reporting requirements.
  • Create, maintain, and optimize ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes for data movement and transformation.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability by implementing data quality checks and reconciliation strategies.
  • Optimize data processing and query performance to support efficient data retrieval and analytics.
  • Establish and enforce data governance standards and best practices to maintain data integrity.
  • Collaborate with business intelligence analysts and dashboard designers to enable data-driven analytics and reporting.
  • Document data engineering processes, data flows, and data models to support data literacy and knowledge transfer

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years experience in data engineering, ETL development, and data integration.
  • Practical experience with web services and API development using REST, SOAP, or GraphQL
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, and data integration tools
  • Knowledge of data quality, governance and reconciliation best practices.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools and reporting such as Power BI, QlikView, or Tableau.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing and data modeling concepts as well as cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS, etc…)
  • Strong critical thinking capacity and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement.
