We are looking for a Master thesis student that would like to take on a project in Trajectory planning algorithm development considering the ride comfort for Autonomous Driving (AD)

 

Background and project description

Recent studies highlighted the gap in trajectory planning for ride comfort in autonomous driving. The driving style of autonomous cars can be subjectively aggressive that might cause unexpected head and body motions which increase the possibility of discomfort. To provide a pleasant journey, more smooth driving characteristics would be selected for Autonomous Driving. However, reduced vehicle speed and acceleration for maximising comfort feeling has a negative effect on journey time. The aim of the research is to investigate & design advanced trajectory planning techniques and algorithms (optimization-based advance control techniques) in Matlab/Simulink and tune them under defined test conditions considering the currently available comfort metrics to achieve low discomfort.   
 

The thesis project is linked to extensive research in Motion sickness and will be supervised by our expert and PhD student.

 

Do you fit the profile

We are looking for Master’s degree students in Control and Mechatronics Engineering. You need to have skills in Matlab/Simulink, optimization-based advance control techniques, vehicle dynamics modelling and control, control theory algorithm development and vehicle application, experience in IPG carmaker. We expect you to be working from our offices in Gothenburg and to collaborate with a parallel thesis work in Methods and optimal estimation algorithms development of motion comfort for Autonomous Driving (AD). Remote working can be discussedz.
 

Duration

  • Academic credits: equivalent to 30 ECTS
  • Starting date: February 2022, to be discussed.
  • Estimated end date: June 2022
  • The duration for this thesis work is 20 weeks.
  • This thesis is to be conducted by 2 Students working in pair.
