About this opportunity - Background

This master thesis work will be carried out within the Thermal System & Function Team within Thermal Management Department, which is a part of the Propulsion and Energy Unit and has the responsibility for designing the full thermal management system and functionalities both for the current projects and concept phases. They collaborate with various departments to enhance system performance and reliability, contributing to the overall development and innovation within the organization.

Scope of the Master Thesis

As the adoption of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) continues to accelerate, the need for efficient and reliable thermal management systems becomes critical. Effective heat management is essential to maintain the performance, safety, and longevity of BEVs, particularly in high-power electronics like batteries, inverters, computing units, and power modules. This thesis investigates the application of Phase Change Materials (PCMs) as an innovative solution for improving thermal management in BEVs. By leveraging the heat absorption and release capabilities of PCMs during phase transitions, this research aims to reduce the need for constant coolant flow, thereby enhancing cooling efficiency and reducing stress on the vehicle’s thermal management system.
