About this opportunity - Background
Calculating weight is a crucial activity when engineering modern cars with high requirements on safety, sustainability and energy efficiency. Management of information of weight and weight distribution for all car configurations, is essential in all phases of the Product development process. With this Master Thesis we at Volvo Cars strive to define and implement changes that will make a difference for our future car programs. 


Scope of the thesis work
The purpose of this thesis is to develop a methodology for a highly automated weight definition used to increase efficiency and quality. The proposed methodology is potentially underpinned by published literature or benchmarks and proven on real Volvo cars data, ideally with the aid of a tool prototype. A highly automated process can potentially mean cost savings of several million SEK yearly.
 

A key activity when performing this assignment is to examine the importance of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) tools in the Car Engineering process. You will learn and understand how essential the optimisation of car configurations is for the complete automotive industry. PLM is becoming more and more important and skills in the PLM area are very meritorious for many engineering careers.

Meritorious qualifications for this position: 
•    Approved results from courses in Product Development
•    CAD/PLM courses from the Master program


Duration
•    The work will start in January/2025 to be discussed
•    The duration for this thesis work is 20 weeks.
•    30 ECTS (academic credits) if in agreement with your Thesis Advisor in University
•    This thesis is to be conducted by 2 Students working in pair.
