The Safety, Strategy & Requirements group are responsible for developing strategies, requirements and methods for future Volvo Cars. These are based on passionate analysis using real world customer data. The mission is directly driving the Volvo Cars’ Safety Vision 2020 and beyond, that no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo. Different international real world data sources are used for this mission including Volvo Cars’ own Traffic Accident and Naturalistic Driving databases.
 

The Passive Safety Analysis group is responsible for evaluation of crash performance in our current and future cars. The analysis work is based on results from both physical testing and virtual simulations.

 

What you’ll do
As a Summer Worker at Volvo Cars Safety Centre you will work with either Safety, Strategy & Requirements or with Passive Safety Analysis.
 

At the Safety, Strategy & Requirements group your days will include preparation and analysis of real world traffic scenario data used for the development of pioneering safety, Highly Automated Driving (HAD) and  Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) technologies. You will work with digitalization and coding of data collected from real life accidents, which later will be used for active safety simulations and analysis.
 

At the Passive Safety Analysis group you participate in Passive Safety Analysis and perform robustness studies in a number of Side Impact load cases. By changing a number of parameters in the complete vehicle CAE models, perform simulations, compare and analyze the results.

 

Who you are
We are looking for a highly motivated individual that has a genuine interest in data and traffic safety analysis. We believe you are a student in a Master’s Degree program in a relevant field (electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or statistical analysis). You have knowledge in programming (Matlab, Python or similar language), in signal processing and analysis. The CAE simulations for passive safety analysis will be made in LS-Dyna and the main modelling and analysis tools is Ansa and Metapost. It is also important that you are fluent in Swedish and English, both written and spoken.

 

We are looking for you who have great communication and collaboration skills with an analytical and problem solving ability. Further, you are self-driven, reliable and passionate about working with automotive safety.

Duration: These summer worker positions will take place during the period June-August 2019 for a total work period of up to 10 weeks. This department is closed for vacation during week 29-32.
