The Compliance & Ethics Office at Volvo Cars, organized under Group Legal, oversees the company’s Trade Sanctions and Export Control Compliance Program, supporting global business in a rapidly changing regulatory landscape. Our international team works with Legal, Engineering, Digital, Procurement, Sales, Logistics, and other departments to strengthen governance and provide practical guidance.

We handle both strategic and operational tasks, including monitoring regulations, assessing risks, and supporting product development, technology transfers, and operations. Collaboration across teams ensures pragmatic, risk-based solutions that reflect Volvo Cars’ values.

We are looking for a Senior Trade Compliance Professional to strengthen our team at the Volvo Cars headquarters in Gothenburg. The role is supporting the company comply with applicable export control and trade sanctions regulations. This role designs, implements, and oversees trade compliance programs to mitigate regulatory risk while enabling efficient international business operations.

The position plays a key advisory role to the business, supporting strategic growth while safeguarding the organization against regulatory, financial, and reputational exposure.

 

What you'll do

You will actively work with export control and trade sanctions related matters involving both EU, US and other regions/countries. You will be required to participate in and contribute to a wide range of related activities and cross-functional engagements, including but not limited to:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a global trade compliance framework covering export controls and trade sanctions
  • Establish and update trade compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls aligned with applicable laws and regulations
  • Act as a trusted advisor to business units on trade-related matters, including restricted party screening, end-use, and end-user requirements
  • Promote a strong compliance culture and awareness across the organization
  • Oversee export classification, license determination, and transaction screening
  • Monitor regulatory developments and assess their impact on the business
  • Perform trade compliance risk assessments and gap analyses, coordinate remediation plans and corrective actions where required
  • Design and deliver trade compliance training tailored to different business functions
  • Prepare management reporting on trade compliance risks, KPIs, and incidents

 

What you'll bring

Required

  • University degree in Law, Business, International Trade, Engineering, or a related field
  • 5–10 years of professional experience in export controls and trade sanctions
  • Strong working knowledge of EU and US export control and trade sanctions laws and regulations
  • Proven ability to translate complex regulations into practical business guidance

Preferred

  • Experience from working in a multinational company
  • Knowledge of automotive industry and its products
  • Certified Export Control Manager (CEM) or equivalent professional certification

Has an analytical, risk‑based mindset, excel in stakeholder management and communication and are able to work independently while navigating competing priorities.
