Senior Software engineer - Common Base Technology

Software development that makes a difference

At Volvo Cars, we are making bold digital visions come true. We aim to lead in the automotive world by creating a digital ecosystem built around making our customers' lives less complicated. Now we are looking for curious, creative people who want to change the world through innovative thinking.

We imagine that our friends, families, and children are transported in a personal, sustainable and safe way. What we build is a self-driving, fully electric, connected and safe Volvo Car.

To make that happen, we are now building a new platform. The brain in this platform will be a Core Computer with the capacity to carry a vast majority of electric control units and applications in the car. This new centralized signal system aims to enable optimized software architecture and continuous deployment for further development, as well as over the air data updates and real-time decision-making for autonomous drive.

What we do?
The teams that you will collaborate with are responsible for some of the base functions for being able to drive our next generation’s electric cars. We develop the start function and usage management modes which ensures that there is always enough energy for prioritized functionality. Collaboration both within and outside our ART is crucial to make our work successful. We have dependencies towards a lot of forefront technologies areas such as autonomous drive, Over the Air update and electrification.

What will you do?
We look for an experienced software leader that can guide and support several cross functional developer teams that have end to end responsibility for product development in Volvo Cars new Core system Platform. You will safeguard that the teams have a common approach for software design and software architecture.

What do you need to fit for this job?
We believe you are a true software engineer who is motivated by challenging tasks in a complex and innovative environment. You have the interest in creating SW architecture and technical road maps. You enjoy explaining advanced programming concepts to junior developers, but also learning from others.  You are analytical and a problem-solver - aware of that there are multiple solutions for a problem. For this position, most of the development is in C++. +5 years’ experience with C++ is required and experience with Python and working in a Linux environment is considered a plus. It’s great if you have experience of software testing and CI, diagnostics and experience from communication buses, CAN/CAN-FD, Flexray.

Finally, as we love cars, we hope that you have a driver license B so that you can experience the fantastic product you will be part of developing.
