Job Summary:   

The Technical Support Engineer is located within the Americas Quality Organization and reports to the Technical Engineering Division. The purpose of the role is to act as the Technical Expert for the America’s region and is responsible to work together with the Retailer Technical Support team and the Central organization (CMQ- Current Model Quality) to solve the most difficult technical cases.  The Technical Support Engineer will also act as the technical expert for the Americas national sales company.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Technical Support Specialists with technical expertise
  • Repair and identify early quality deviations within the Americas Region
  • Effectively exchange technical information
  • Find solutions utilizing all technical resources available
  • Contribute to quality, customer and dealer satisfaction through communication with the product follow up & technical staff
  • Collaborate with the Technical Support Specialists and the CMQ support team to resolve difficult repair concerns
  • Input for PFU (Product Follow Up) to identify needed technical information, TJ’s (Technical Journals), TIE news, etc
  • Support PFU in remote data collection
  • Support engineering tools (Data loggers, recordings, CANalyzer, etc)
  • Provide internal support personnel with technical information
  • Develop interim service solutions and repair instructions when applicable
  • Report/communicate developments and trends regarding support requests
  • Support root cause analysis of solved and unsolved cases
  • Monitor and effectively manage “no-fix” product situations within the Region (Sales Company to Dealer)
  • Develop and provide constant improvement to working processes related to technical repairs
  • Utilization of Engineering Evaluation Vehicles (EEV’s) and Engineering resources to duplicate, create, and verify repair methods and process
  • Support workshop case builds and drive changes in service information (VIDA) as needed


Key Competencies/Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge in advanced automotive diagnostics.
  • Preferred minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Volvo Master Technician.
  • Experience in the Volvo Technical Helpdesk or Field Technical Support.
  • Preferred all 8 ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications, plus L1 (Advanced level specialist).
  • Strong Microsoft (Excel, Outlook, etc.) skills with the ability to learn additional software programs.
  • Proficient in Volvo specific computer applications such as TIE,PIE,DHA,SDA, WebEx etc.
  • Preferred knowledge on software such as CANalyzer, INCA, etc.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Passion for problem solving and learning.
