Senior Site SQM Engineer - Stamping

Senior Site SQM Engineer 

The Senior Site Supplier Quality Management (SQM) Engineer is responsible for managing quality and delivery performance of supplier manufacturing locations (i.e. sites) regarding supplier manufacturing process performance, both for new programs and running production to prevent and correct disturbances to Volvo Cars plants.

Main responsibilities

  • Annual phase
    • Support Commodity Business Plans, CBP
  • Sourcing
    • Perform supplier evaluations according to Manufacturing Site Assessment, MSA and Commodity Specific Assessment, CSA prior to Sourcing Consensus, SC
  • Program and launch phase
    • Review Yellow/Red items in APQP CCAR for all suppliers
    • Participate in APQP reviews for prioritized suppliers
    • Communicate concerns and report risks to System Program Leader SQM (SPL)
    • Communicate updated PPAP timings to SPL SQM or update directly in the system
    • Lead and/or support team events according to the SEP procedure for priority suppliers
    • Secure PPAP delivery according to expected timing
    • Approve or reject PPAP from suppliers
    • Validate supplier manufacturing capacity and escalate the risks
    • Verify Stamping Die Design / Dimensional Gage design
    • Verify Weld Cell layout and assembly datum schemes to part design intent
    • Support Class A surface approval
    • Provide expertise to the VCCH Procurement SQM team for Stamping Commodities
  • Running operations
    • Perform Manufacturing Site Assessments and drive related CCAR activities
    • Perform Lean Deployment Assessments, LDA.
    • Manage supplier progress to achieve the Volvo Cars Quality Excellence Award VQE.
    • Manage supplier in developing QR/ppm reduction plan, when needed.
    • Manage 8D activities at supplier from D4 to D8 closure
    • Schedule and conduct Field Action/Stop Shipment (FASS) reviews
    • Share Lessons Learn within SQM
    • Manage constraint suppliers
    • Escalate suppliers according to the Escalation process
    • Manage escalated suppliers to closure within time frame
    • Act as a Mentor for Stamping expertise within the Procurement Team
    • Provide expertise for Die maintenance and die repair as needed in current production


Required qualifications

  • Commercial or technical university degree or equivalent
  • Journeyman Tool and Die Certificate Preferred
  • Computer skills (MS Office and especially Excel)
  • Experience from:
    • 10 year automotive industry with focus on Class A Stampings, BIW structure
    • Die Engineering / Journeyman’s Card from Dept. of Labor preferred
    • Familiar with BIW Assembly Cell’s and Datum Scheme
  • Language skills: fluent in written and oral English
