What’s in it for you in this role?
As Customs Specialist Transformation you will become a main player for Trade & Customs and you will be part of the Global Customs & Export controls team. 
You will be part of driving the transformation in the way we work and in how we approach challenges in our running business. As such you will be setting the scene for our customs handling for the foreseeable future ensuring that our internal customs handling is always efficient, effective and compliant. 

What you’ll do in this important role. 
As Customs Specialist Transformation you will be part of a newly formed team “Customs Transformation” consisting of about 10 experienced customs professionals in Europe, USA and China. The goal is to reduce the dependency on human intervention and firefighting in our customs operations following a concept of automation and robotization.
 

Together with the team, you will own the roadmap towards full automation / robotization of our customs operations and will drive the necessary process changes, define the needed adaptations and negotiate needs and possibilities between Customs and the relevant stakeholders. This team will take the lead in the transformation within our customs operations. The work will need to be done in close collaboration between our Customs Operations team, our Digital team, and our business stakeholders such Logistics functions, procurement, goods receivers etc.
 

You will be responsible for delivering on the plan set together with your manager and the team. A key success factor will be your ability to translate inefficiencies into activities improving and on delivering on the improvements. You will be achieving the goals of this roles through cooperation with our Digital teams but the main focus of this role will be the improvement of the “way we work”; i.e. our processes, approach ensuring structure, predictability and steady flow.

Do you fit the profile? 

• You have 3+ years experience of international trade and customs operations together with proven project management skills, as well as experience of working with process improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma / Lean. 
• You have an affinity for IT systems, processes and standards but understand that all tools, systems and processes are only valuable if they support a strong, standardized way of working.
• You are proactive and work along the entire value chain with all relevant stakeholders to solve challenges so that everybody wins.
• You are not afraid of being challenged – or diving into conflicting interests – but tackle them head-on with the aim to solve the challenges by reaching the best possible solution for the company.
• Beyond this you know how to translate your ideas into concrete plans, and bring others on the journey to achieve these ideas.
• You follow through on your ideas and your commitments. People around you see you as trustworthy, dependable and a collaborator. You balance the interests of everyone, and work proactively in shaping expectations from stakeholders as well as communicate your expectations clearly.

Additional Information:
This role is considered an FTZ “Key Employee”. In addition to the Volvo Car background check/investigation completed prior to hire, all Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) “Key Employees” will be required to complete a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) background check, which includes a Volvo Car background check/investigation, at least every five years. If an employee fails the background check, they will not be allowed to work as a “FTZ key employee”.
