Facility Management (FM) - Engineering Manager

Job Summary:         

The Facility Management (FM) Sr. Engineering Manager is responsible to manage engineering and construction projects related to all facilities of Volvo Car Group in the Americas region.  This position will be required to travel to their various responsible locations.


Principal Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of the FM Director and other FM Project Managers, function as a Senior Engineering Manager responsible for all aspects of assigned projects. 
  • Manage and control various engineering and construction projects for Volvo Car Group within the Americas region, directly related to the facilities that support manufacturing and production of vehicles, office support facilities, and/or research and development facilities. 
    • NOTE:  Facilities is a general term that describes the buildings, utilities and services that supprt the business.  Within this role, primary responsibilities will be to support design of the facilities only – there will be little to no involvement with the direct manufacturing of vehicles or engineering thereof.
  • Manage all stages of project lifecycle including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control, and closure.
    • Prepare and review design engineering concepts, plans and specifications and provide expert feedback to ensure Volvo’s standards are met.
    • Prepare and update schedules, review contractor schedules.
    • Evaluate and understand basic constructions means and methods.
    • Maintain project specific documentation including drawings, submittals, RFIs, change orders, audits, meetings, training records, punch lists, other records, etc.
    • Review, analyze and respond to project related submittals, RFIs, change orders, audits, etc.
    • Prepare basic estimates.
  • Serve as a coordinating point on projects with other Volvo stakeholders, with a high degree of responsiveness to requests for contract preparation, budget updates, schedules, project logs, completion and turnover documentation, etc.
  • Ensure that all the facilities within the region are operating as per the Volvo standard and as per the legal requirements.


Job Specifications:             

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent knowledge in Project Management, Engineering or Construction.
  • Minimum +5 years of experience in a design engineering role related to facilities (building design).  
  • Specific experience in design engineering with regards to Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing (MEP) with knowledge in National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) design preferred. A multi-discipline engineering background is also preferred. 
  • Some Project Management experience is a plus, including in the field construction environment.
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Basic computer skills in AutoCAD and/or BIM modelling (REVIT) a plus, Drafting and advanced computer skills a plus.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications.
  • Ability to think strategically and possess a helicopter "view".
  • Effective organizational skills.
  • Effective written and verbal English language communication skills.
  • Must be willing to travel to project locations on a temporary basis.  Job will be based out of Charleston SC.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
