As an Senior Export Control Specialist, your key responsibilities will be responsible for ensuring the export control compliance in all Volvo Cars business activities together with the rest of the Export Control team. You will become a part of a team with aspirations to make a global change. The role will be based in the US, located at Volvo Cars in either Charleston, SC or Mahwah, NJ.

 

  • Your focus will be on the Americas region to enable business compliance with applicable trade sanctions and export control laws.
  • Further, you will support the efforts to define and drive the vision for the further development of Volvo Cars Export Control Program and therefore work closely with the global Export Control team members, other internal groups and colleagues, suppliers, customers, authorities etc. to coordinate and ensure any export controls requirements and needs will be timely and accurately satisfied.
  • Key responsibilities will be to assess the effectiveness of processes and compliance controls, communicate gaps, and assume accountability for closing such gaps in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
  • You will monitor analysis of changes and supporting affected business units by interpreting and explaining export controls requirements and regulations.
  • You will be responsible for the optimization and implementation of required verifications and analysis through proper procedures, guidelines, and instructions.
  • You will support implementation and improvements of trade automation projects and other continuous improvements to allow Volvo Cars to move products in a more efficient and compliant manner.
  • You will manage Export Control Classifications of Volvo Cars products and ensure proper export license authorizations are in place when needed.
  • You will build and maintain strong relationships with other functions such as R&D and Procurement and provide training and guidance.
  • Minimal travel may be required to meet the needs of the business (estimated 15%). Additional duties as assigned.


To be successful in this role, you have:

  • Min. 5 years of relevant experience in export controls and sanctions in an international environment with either an international operating company or an international law firm;
  • Relevant experience in safeguarding compliance including translation of export control and sanctions legal requirements into business practice, conducting investigations, assessing risk and developing mitigation strategies, providing trainings, developing compliance programs as well as drafting policies and procedures;
  • Maintain a strong understanding of U.S. export control and sanctions regulations
  • It would be also helpful if you have a technical knowledge of products, software, and applied technologies in the automotive industry (autonomous driving, connected vehicles, encryption etc.).

 

As a person you have excellent communication and presentation skills (with the ability to convince and influence people). You demonstrate independence and confidence in decision making. You are a structured, open-minded person with a hands-on mentality. Making sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.​Creating new and better ways for the organization to be successful. Last but not least you have high ethical standards, and you have ability to prioritize needs.
