Public Affairs Officer – VCC EU office, Brussels

Volvo Car Group is looking for a Public Affairs Officer to join its EU Office in Brussels, Belgium. The Office forms part of Volvo Cars’ Public Affairs team with colleagues in Sweden (Gothenburg and Stockholm) and the US (Washington D.C). The position reports to Volvo Car’s Head of Public Affairs whereas the responsibility for the daily work and duties is managed by the Public Affairs Director in Brussels.

What You'll Do

We are looking for someone ready to take initiatives and perform actions to influence various policy processes, in line with our company’s corporate strategies and business targets. The Public Affairs Officer will need to engage in new as well as established networks. Also, the role should seek and propose opportunities for the company to engage in relevant policy processes, and stand ready to facilitate relevant dialogues in connection with these. Day to day you will be engaged in:

  • Monitoring policy initiatives at EU level (and national level in key VCC markets in continental Europe, such as BE, UK, DE and FR)
  • Following the work and initiatives of the main Committees of the European Parliament impacting the automotive sector and VCC (IMCO, ENVI, TRAN, ITRE, etc.), including strategic planning of initiatives and activities that support the company’s position
  • Supporting the preparation of the company’s positions and public affair strategy for the EU level (drafting presentations, memos and positions, preparation of meetings with stakeholders, etc.)
  • Participating in and represent VCC in meetings held by EU institutions, trade associations (e.g. ACEA) and other relevant stakeholders
  • Providing support to VCC Belgium in PA-related issues, including organization of visits by stakeholders and decision-makers to the production facility in Gent
  • Drafting a bimonthly newsletter informing colleagues globally about key developments at EU level.


Do you fit the profile?

  • Experience from and/or excellent knowledge of European Union politics and the EU decision-making structure, in particular regulatory and legal processes
  • Strong communication, analysis and diplomatic skills as well as organizational skills
  • Interest in, and understanding of, automotive and manufacturing issues is desirable
  • Degree Qualified
  • Excellent command of the English language – verbal and written, knowledge of Swedish, Dutch, French and/or German an advantage
  • Flexibility to travel
