Commodity Manufacturing Engineering is one of the departments within Volvo Cars Manufacturing Engineering VCME. We prepare and implement safe, quality assured, efficient and flexible production systems in the Final Assembly plants. Our task is to ensure a process-driven product development by driving forward and coordinating manufacturing engineering activities in design and product development, with focus on production-effective product solutions.


Commodity Manufacturing Engineering in Charleston is now looking for a Manufacturing Engineer. In this role you will assure flawless introduction of car programs into our plants, lead and coordinate activities within your area of responsibility as well as continuously strive for commonality within VCC plants. As a manufacturing engineer you will also support involved stakeholders when expert competence is needed, as well as represent Manufacturing during the preparation and implementation phase of a car project within your own commodity area.


Main responsibilities

  • Represents Manufacturing Engineering (ME) within ME as well as towards R&D 
  • Responsible for input/feedback of ME requirements to involved stakeholders
  • Give input to the summary and report gates / milestones within the area of responsibility
  • Report status and deviations in decided systems/tools and ensure follow-up actions
  • Secure flawless launch by supporting and closely cooperating with other teams, including Plant Launch, Industrial Engineering and Tooling
  • Verify that methods and equipment work as intended and meets ME requirements
  • Provide product and process feedback to R&D
  • Create and follow up temporary process deviations during launch
  • Lead and coordinate the problem analysis of assembly issues during launch
  • Support problem solving as part of cross functional teams in all phases of the car’s life
  • Coordinate problem solving with VCC’s other plants globally
  • Coordinate and evaluate product changes in running production, perform test assemblies and proactively communicate issues with involved stakeholders. 
  • Contribute to the product development through close cooperation with the Central ME organisation, taking parts in FMEA’s and escalating product related top issues. 
  • Use engineering tools to analyse and solve problems.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of both technical topics as well as ways of working.

Required Qualifications

  • B.Sc in Engineering, preferably or equal Production Engineering experience
  • Fluent in English, spoken and written
  • FMEA & DFA knowledge is desired
  • Excellent ability to use Microsoft Office applications
  • Practical experience of the production process is desirable
  • Experience in Teamcenter and Teamcenter Vis Mockup is desirable
  • Knowledge about the processes, methods, and tools at Manufacturing and R&D is desirable
  • Must be legally able to work in the US without visa sponsorship
